The head of the university's sociology department, Professor Mehmet Meder, told the Anatolia news agency that the survey was conducted on 2,000 individuals in various Turkish provinces to understand why people go to shopping centers and how they feel about shopping. “We asked what shopping malls mean to people in their individual lives,” he said. “A total of 44.7 percent of the women we surveyed feel guilty after shopping while 52.3 percent of men said they feel no such guilt. The women said they feel guilt thinking they bought something unnecessary,” Meder said. The professor noted that 41.3 percent of the respondents said they are happy while shopping, while 16.3 percent said they are excited and 12.3 percent said they are stressed. “The general picture shows that people are generally happy with shopping.
